Highlights:
-Guest Presentation: Gage Bailey and Katherine Scott, Student Diversity and Equality Council: consists of all
organizations on campus that wish to work on issues of equality, diversity, and inclusion; gender neutral housing resolution drafted; 200 universities nationwide and 3 in VA have such a policy
-President's Report: 15-16 Handbook available; Campus Safety - VP Bill Brauer has conducted survey of all academic buildings and will address issues regarding locks and blinds as needed; Changes to Virginia Retirement System (VRS) - concerns were noted about the process; Annual Review proposal update was given; Senate urges Provost's Office for more attention to timely processing of all paper work including work VISAs
-Faculty Development Grants: 34 faculty submitted applications in Fall 2015
-Instructional Faculty Personnel Regulations Committee: completed review of Handbook and will propose changes
-Final Exam Committee: draft submitted for review
-Curriculum Committee: drafted a plan to
streamline the curriculum decision process under newly formed “Educational Policy Committee,” consisting of faculty, deans, and the Provost (or the Provost’s representative), which would replace the current University Curriculum Committee
-Curricular Process: a routing mistake occurred
that impacted two proposals for new courses in the Area of Civic and Democratic Engagement; Senate reminds all curriculum committees to verify Handbook procedures before submitting recommendations
-Updated Memo to the Budget Advisory Committee drafted
-QEP Topic Recommendations will be discussed in December
-FRC: difficulty in finding common times for meeting; faculty applying to promotion to full professor should not serve
-IDEA Incentives: discussed the challenges of administering online IDEA surveys that can result in faculty offering incentives; Senate will continue to gather information on this issue
