-President’s Report: eight sabbaticals were being given this year
-Adjunct Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award motion passed
-Status of the Provost Search: will compose a short list of candidates once they had read all the applications; President Trible wants an open and honest search; final hiring decision rests with the President of the university
-FMLA/Childcare subcommittee report: faculty concerns about Provost's suggestion; the issues were discussed; taskforce to establish a childcare center on campus has 16 faculty and 4 staff volunteers; fund raising needed; no child development lab into the facility; Motion to form task force passed
-Equity of annual evaluations: tenured vs restricted faculty discussion
-Provost Doughty had agreed to the Senate’s
recommendation to fund search committee members’ meals when hosting candidates on campus
-Supersections: supersections fill first, even
when smaller class sections of the same course are available; administration had decided that starting in Fall 2014 there would be no more classes over 100 in
the fall; History Department had decided not to teach supersections; a big difference in student behavior in large
classes as well; Senators agreed that a review of which classes are offered as supersections would be a good idea
- Provost’s proposal to move dossier reviews to spring term was explained and discussed
-the Senate congratulated Dr. Quentin Kidd for winning the SCHEV Outstanding Faculty Award
