The Phantom Tollbooth: Beyond Expectations playfully examines the creation, creators, lasting impact and enduring relevance of one of the most beloved children's books of our time. Through interviews, animation, and archival imagery, the documentary traces the friendship between author Norton Juster and Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Jules Feiffer.

Hannah Jayanti is a Brooklyn-based filmmaker and editor who combines documentary, literature and video art to explore the world around her. She has worked on documentaries for the BBC and VIXPIX Films including The Secret Life of Uri Geller, Rolf Harris Paints His Dream, and The Agony and The Ecstasy of Phil Spector. The Phantom Tollbooth: Beyond Expectations is her directorial debut. She currently teaches video production in Brooklyn while working freelance for such clients as VICE, Random House, BRIC Arts Media, The Village Voice, All Rites Reserved, Film at Eleven, and Grand Central Publishing, among others.

Tickets are required for the event and are FREE for students with a valid ID and $5 for the general public. They can be purchased at the Ferguson Center Box Office during operating hours.

This program is designed to bring some of the best new independent American films and their respective filmmakers to communities across the mid-Atlantic region. The filmmaker and an assembled panel of experts will participate in a post-screening discussion to build greater appreciation for the art of film.
