Description
he (sic) 2nd Annual Reel It OUT Queer Film Festival of Hampton Roads (reelitout.org) is honored to present a FREE screening of “If These Walls Could Talk 2” (2000) in the Studio Theatre (Black Box) of the Ferguson Center for the Arts at Christopher Newport University on Wednesday, February 5th, 2014, at 7PM.
“If These Walls Could Talk 2” is a three-part drama following different lesbians who live in the same house in separate eras (1961, 1972, and 2000) and deal with different issues. It addresses the changing tides of the lives of lesbians in the American home and politics. Directed by Jane Anderson (1961), Martha Coolidge (1972) and Anne Heche (2000). Starring Ellen DeGeneres, Michelle Williams, Sharon Stone, Natasha Lyonne, Vanessa Redgrave, Chloe Sevigny, Nia Long, and Kathy Najimy. See the trailer now at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp_h_ZqHhF0!
In 1961, the house is home to Edith (Vanessa Redgrave) and Abby (Marian Seldes), an elderly couple in a society that does not acknowledge nor accept their lesbian relationship. When Abby suffers a stroke, the consequences turn dire for Edith.
In 1972, the house is home to four college students involved in the Feminist Movement. Linda (Michelle Williams) becomes romantically involved with Amy (Chloe Sevigny), a self-proclaimed “butch.” Linda’s housemates see Amy’s masculine attire and attitude as a form of self-loathing against being a woman, creating a complex situation for Amy and Linda.
In 2000, the house is home to Fran (Sharon Stone) and Kal (Ellen DeGeneres), a happy and committed couple who wish to have a baby. However, the process of pregnancy becomes much more complex than anticipated.
Doors open at 6:30PM. The film starts at 7PM. Catering will be provided. A panel Q&A session will follow the film that examines hospital visitation, inheritance, and pregnancy issues for same-sex couples; the conflict between feminism and lesbianism; and (mis)perceived butch/femme dynamics in lesbian relationships.
Admission is FREE. There is a suggested $5 donation, which is welcomed, encouraged, and greatly appreciated! All proceeds benefit the ACCESS AIDS Care Center for Education and Support Services of Hampton Roads (accessaids.org). Donations will be directed toward the following purposes:
1. To provide educational and supportive services to LGBTQ individuals and youth.
