Description

A group of teenagers leaves the streets of Washington, DC, to participate in an ambitious anti-violence education program in rural West Virginia where they confront the entrenched abuse, violence and neglect cycles of their past. Fly By Light is an intimate exploration of the chaotic, confusing, and emotional journey that follows as they attempt to rewrite their futures.

Ellie Walton has committed her life’s work to sharing stories that inspire connection across social and cultural divides. She has directed and produced a range of radio and video documentaries. Her feature length documentaries, Chocolate City, Igual Que Tú, and Walk With Me have been screened at film festivals across the world and continue to be used as educational tools at universities, schools and conferences. Walton has been recognized by the Humanities Council of Washington, D.C., the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and the National Endowment for the Arts. She holds Master degrees in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh and in Screen Documentary from the University of London.

Tickets are required for the event and are FREE for students with a valid ID and $5 for the general public. They can be purchased at the Ferguson Center Box Office during operating hours.

This program is designed to bring some of the best new independent American films and their respective filmmakers to communities across the mid-Atlantic region. The filmmaker and an assembled panel of experts will participate in a post-screening discussion to build greater appreciation for the art of film.

Organized by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, On Screen/In Person is made possible through the generous support of the National Endowment for the Arts' Regional Touring Program, Christopher Newport University's Office of the Provost and the Ferguson Center for the Arts.
