I am pleased to announce the appointment of Adelia Thompson as the new Vice President of University Advancement, effective June 1, 2011. Ms. Thompson joins us from Birmingham-Southern College where she has served as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement since 2005. She successfully led and completed the first phase of Birmingham-Southern’s comprehensive campaign, surpassing the $50 million goal last August. She also served as Vice President for Development at the CDC Foundation in Atlanta, securing over $45 million in support of that national foundation’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and served for nine years as Assistant Vice President for Development at Agnes Scott College. Ms. Thompson is a Phi Beta Kappa, Cum Laude graduate of Birmingham-Southern College with a bachelor’s degree in English. She is deeply committed to liberal learning having spent more than half of her 25-year career in non-profit leadership at excellent liberal arts and sciences schools.
